What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are sent to or accessed from your browser or the memory of your device. A cookie usually contains the name of the domain (internet location) from which the cookie originated, the “lifetime” of the cookie (that is when it expires), and a randomly generated unique number or similar identifier. A cookie may also contain information about your devices, such as settings, browsing history, and activities performed when using our services.
Are there different types of cookies?
First-party and third-party cookies
There are first-party and third-party cookies. First-party cookies are installed directly by us on your device. For example, we use first-party cookies to adapt our website to your browser’s language settings and to understand how you use our website. Third-party cookies are installed on your device by our partners and service providers. You can learn more about these partners and service providers through our website and in-app consent management tools. For more details about these tools, click on “How do you manage cookies?” below.
Session and persistent cookies
There are session cookies and persistent cookies. Session cookies only exist until you close the browser. We use session cookies for various reasons, including to learn more about how you use our website during a browser session and to help you use our website more effectively. Persistent cookies are stored for a longer period of time and also last longer than the current session. Such cookies may be used to help you quickly log back into our website for analytics purposes and for other purposes described below.
As for other tracking technologies, such as tracking pixels and SDKs?
Other technologies such as tracking pixels (also called pixel tags, web beacons, or clear gifs), tracking addresses, or SDKs (software development kits) are used for similar purposes as cookies. Tracking pixels are small graphic files that contain a unique identifier that allows us to see when someone has visited our service or opened an email that we have sent them. Tracking URLs are custom-generated links that help us understand where the traffic on our web pages is coming from. SDKs are small pieces of code that reside in apps and act as cookies and tracking pixels.
For the sake of simplicity, we also refer to these technologies as “cookies” in this cookie policy.
What do we use cookies for?
Like most online service providers, we use cookies to provide, protect and improve our services, including by remembering your preferences, recognizing you when you visit our website, seeing how well our marketing campaigns are working, and personalizing and tailoring ads according to your interests. To achieve these purposes, we may also link information from cookies with other personal information we have about you.
When you use our services, some or all of the following types of cookies may be installed on your device:
Necessary cookies
Such cookies are absolutely necessary for you to access our services, e.g. to be able to log in, remember your preferences and keep you safe by detecting malicious activity.
Analytical cookies
Such cookies help us understand how our services are used so that we can customize and improve our services for you.
Advertising and marketing cookies
Such cookies are used so that we can see how effective our marketing campaigns are and show ads that are more relevant to you. They have various functions, such as helping us understand how much traffic our marketing campaigns generate for our services, preventing the same ad from recurring, ensuring that ads are displayed correctly, selecting ads that are relevant to you, and measuring the number of ads that are displayed and what results they produce, for example, how many people have responded to a particular ad.
Cookies from social networks
Such cookies are used to enable you to share pages and content that you find interesting on our services via third-party social networks and other websites or services. Such cookies can also be used for advertising purposes.
Cookie settings
You can manage cookies in several ways. Please note that you may have a poorer experience with our services if you change your cookie settings, as they are not necessarily tailored to you. In some cases, you may not be able to use all or part of our services.
Browser and device settings
Some browsers have settings that allow you to manage or reject cookies or warn you when a cookie is placed on your computer. The handling of cookies differs slightly between different browsers. You can manage the individual steps in the browser’s help menu.
You may also reset device identifiers or choose not to collect or process identifiers by activating the appropriate setting on your mobile device. Handling of identifiers differs between devices. You can manage the individual steps in your device’s help or settings menu.
Interest-based advertising tools
Advertising companies may participate in self-regulatory programs that allow you to opt-out of any interest-based advertising involving them.
Opting out does not mean that you will not see advertising. However, this means that you will avoid personally targeted advertising from companies that participate in opt-out programs. If you delete cookies on your device after opting out, you need to opt-out again.
